Keehan is an Irish visual artist based between Ireland and Scotland. She was awarded PhD from Glasgow School of Art 2021, MFA Byam Shaw School of Art UAL 2004, and BA Fine Art LSAD 2002. Her research is in the expanded field of painting and the use of drapery in art. Looking closely at veiling and artifice, her practice incorporates drapery and framing to create complex structural experiences of real and imaginary spaces. Drapery has a wealth of history relating to painting and these propositions amplify the experience of viewing and understanding.
She exhibits nationally and internationally, most recently in Arusha Gallery Edinburgh March 2024. Her work can be found in permanent collections including the Arts Council of Ireland, Trinity College Dublin and the OPW. She's involved with curatorial projects in the field of expanded painting and drapery. She has received many awards and residencies, including being shortlisted for the Contemporary British Painting Prize 2023. Also, she is a founding member of Shell/ter Artist Collective with recent shows including The National Gallery of Ireland and Draiocht in 2023, and an upcoming show in Limerick City Gallery of Art June 2024.
